No positive identification of Maria's parents has been found. It is possible that the family moved into Leek from the countryside, for Maria's father to work in the silk industry, if this is true, then the question is from where ?. There is a possible baptism in Leek at about the correct time for Maria's birth, however this is for a Mary (daughter of Richard and Ann), so is considered only a 'possible'.
