Josiah seems to have lived all his life in, or near, Hornchurch (Essex).

After 3 years of searching I eventually proved that the entry in the Hornchurch Parish Register for a birth of "Thomas ALLSOP" in 1802 was in fact Josiah's birth (confirmed by the Bishop's Transcript of the register, which reads 'Josiah'). This, at last, gave me Josiah's parents; Thomas and Mary (who already had a living son called Thomas, so the register must be wrong).

Robert and Mary's children are the first entries for ALLSOP in the Hornchurch registers, so they must have moved in from elsewhere. They married in Doddinghurst Essex (Mary's parish), but banns were also published in South Weald, which was Robert's parish, and included Brentwood, where I suspect the family originates.
